Gregory Thomas McHaley  59,  died March 13 2021

Greg was a graduate of Pocatello High school  and ISU’s welding school.  He was an excellent welder, A member of local union 648 for 24 years. His welding career took him all over the country including Alaska and Hawaii; but his real passion was for fishing.   He would fish anywhere there were fish.  Deep sea, lake, river. One summer he floated the south fork in his drift boat 44 times.  I think he knew the names of all the fish.  He was a strong believer of catch and release for every thing except tuna. He loved canning tuna and was very generous with it.

He was preceded in death by his brother Mitch and his mother Patricia Aschebrenner.  He is survived by his step father Paul Aschenbrenner .

He will be missed by all who called him friend.

I will miss Greg and our long telephone conversations. He was a good union brother and treated me with such respect. When on the road working Greg would always ask for me to be his partner and I greatly appreciated it. He was kind, had a big heart and could always make me laugh. R.I.P. brother, I for one will never forget you.

Greg was such a good, good person, truly kind and compassionate. He loved his Mom and Paul, and had an appreciative family of construction travellers who benefitted from his humor and sunny nature. He worked hard for what he accomplished, and was proud of his new drift boat. He may have been too tender hearted for this world that seems so mean these days. The obituary is lovely, and yes fishing and being in nature made him happy. When I think of him I will always picture him "on the river". Rest in peace, Greg, and friends, do not despair, for he is at peace.

Park-It RV Storage has Greg's property - no hurry - but when ready contact us about the status - 208-233-5899.  We have known Greg for many years and have always appreciated his sense of humor, his dedication to whatever he is doing, be it work or play.  When he rented from us he was a superb tenant.  When my husband sold him his home he was intelligent about his purchase.  Of course his fishing stories were wonderful and as everyone knows he shares his tuna with everyone, even us.  So sad to see such a pleasant, talented person leave this life.  It just isn't fair.  His memory lives on.  Cathy and Dave McPherson
