Obituary

Royce (64) and Rita “Mom” (66) Martin of Pocatello, Idaho passed away on October 25, 2021 at Portneuf Medical Center. They passed away within hours of each other, holding hands.
Royce Martin, son of Hiram and May Martin, Tyhee, was born February 12, 1957 in Bannock County. He was the youngest of six. He graduated from Highland High School in 1975. He served a mission in Georgia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He met Rita Martin in Chubbuck at the 7-Eleven in 1978, and immediately knew that he had found the love of his life. After asking her out several times, Rita finally agreed to go on a date with Royce. After several dates, Royce asked Rita to marry him, and they were married in June of 1979. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS temple in 1980.
Royce worked in the semiconductor industry, and Rita stayed at home and raised their two children. They had William in 1980, followed by Rose in 1983. Royce earned an Electronic Specialist Associates Degree from Idaho State University. He served in various positions within the LDS church, and enjoyed gardening and fixing things around the house. Royce worked for Idaho State University for 25 years as an Electronic Specialist repairing electronics for the University, and enjoyed being part of the Anime Club.
Rita, daughter of Bill and Liz Stutzman, was born May 15, 1955 in Rogersville, Tennessee. She grew up in Cahokia, Illinois, and moved to Pocatello Idaho with her parents after she graduated from Cahokia High School in Illinois in 1973. Rita loved her two children, and enjoyed raising them. She had great aim with a Sinex bottle, and her laugh could fill an entire room with joy. She earned her Nail Technician Certificate from Idaho State University in her late 50’s. She enjoyed playing darts with her daughter Rose, and was fondly known as “Mom” by her friends.
They are survived by their two children, William Martin and his wife Shayla Martin, and Rose Fryar and her wife Jenn Fryar, and their children Kendall and Piper.
There will be a celebration of life ceremony on November 6, 2021 at their church, located at 550 West Cedar Street, in Pocatello at 2PM, followed by a lunch.
